Srinagar: On the occasion of India’s Independence Day, the State Government ordered release of 28 convicted prisoners.
“In exercise of the powers conferred under section 34 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, the Governor is pleased to order that the remaining term of imprisonment on 28 prisoners shall be remitted with effect from 15 August 2016,” reads a notification issued by the Principal Secretary to the Government, Home Department.
The prisoners whose term of imprisonment has been remitted include Rattan Lal S/o Shanker Dass R/o Ward No. 1, Bhour Camp Jammu, Mohammad Maqbool S/o Rustam Khan R/o Dhanore, Tehsil Mahore District Reasi, Karanjeet Singh @ Dolly S/o Dalip Singh R/o Ward No. 1 Simbal Camp, Jammu, Bhagwan Dass S/o Dhani Ram R/o Camp Khour, Akhnoor, Jammu, Joginder Lal S/o Shanker Dass R/o Ward No. 1 Bhour Camp Jammu, Subash Kumar S/o Rattan Lal, R/o Gali No. 8, Shakti Nagar Jammu, Bhupinder Sharma S/o Kulbhushan Sharma R/o Mishriwala A/P Gorkha Nagar Jammu, Bodh Raj S/o Om Parkash R/o Gali No. 7, Shakti Nagar Jammu, Garu Ram, S/o Thoru Ram, R/o Khepar, R. S. Pora, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar S/o Basant Ram R/o Kawa Udhampur, Mohammad Sharief S/o Lal Din R/o Dhara Samote Tehsil Surankote District Poonch and one lifer convicted prisoner namely Mohammad Amin Dar S/o Sanaullah Dar R/o Darpora Banihal District Ramban has been released from Central Jail Srinagar and handed over to his brother on the eve of Independence Day 2016.
