Sumbal: Agitated protesters torched abandoned security bunkers and a forest check post after an Army vehicle hit a private car killing a civilian on spot near Wangipora Sumbal in North Kashmir’s Banipora district on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Muhammad Ashraf Mir son of Abdul Aziz a resident of Ahan Ganderbal.
Eyewitnesses told CNS that the deceased had gone to Wangipora petrol pump to refill his car (JK01D-3093) where it was hit by an Army’s Casper vehicle (009374H) belonging to 13 Rashtriya Rifles stationed at Mansbal Sumbal. Soon after the incident, residents of Sumbal took to streets and tried to set ablaze the army vehicle. However the timely intervention from police kept protesters at bay. SDPO Sumbal Rashid Akbar told CNS that besides sizing the army vehicle they arrested the ‘erring’ Army driver whom he identified as Amol Patil. “A formal case vides FIR number 131/2016 under section 279, 304A has been registered against him,” he said.
Reports said that agitated protesters set ablaze two Jammu Kashmir Armed Police bunkers situated near Sumbal Bridge. They also set a forest check post on fire.
