Woman Injured in Qazigund Firing Dies, Toll Mounts To 47

Anantnag: Neelufar Jan, who was hit by a bullet after army’s 9 RR opened fire at a protest in Qazigund yesterday, succumbed to her injuries at SKIMS Srinagar this morning.

Neelufar w/o Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh of Chowgam Qazigund was injured along with her 8-year-old son Aqib Fayaz.

She along with her child were rushed to SKIMS, Srinagar 100 kms away from Qazigund, in a critical condition where she succumbed to her wounds this morning leaving behind injured kid battling for his life in the same hospital.

25 year old Showkat Ahmad Ittu and Syeda Bano (45) wife of Hassan Mir, both residents of Cheirut Qazigund had died on the spot after being hit by the bullets.

With Neelufa’s death the toll since July 9 has gone upto 48. 

At least 5000 people have reportedly been injured mostly having received bullet or pellet injuries. Pellets have blinded more than two dozen youth as well.
