SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir police beat up protestors which included women and men protestors in summer capital on Saturday.
Reports said that a dead body of a youth was lying in Zampa Kadal Public Park when police reached the spot. One of the few photo-journalists who managed to reach the spot said that the locals of Zampa Kadal had offered Nimaz-i-Jinazah of the deceased youth who be¬longed to Islamabad. He was hit by a bullet and was referred to SMHS for advanced treatment but succumbed to his injuries.
There was huge sloganeering, the media personnel said, but police were seeking custody of the slain youth.
The journalist informed that the locals were not ready to hand over the body to police and were mulling another funeral prayer for the slain civilian. The identity of the slain Islamabad, however, could not be ascertained given the tough situation.
Given the situation we were in, it was impossible that I could ascertain the details of the dead youth, the journalist said.
After the locals didnt relent, the journalist said, police resorted to lathi-charge and children and women were beaten up.
It ensued in to clashes and police finally took the custody of the body, he added. The locals had planned to themselves send the body of the deceased youth.
