Srinagar: Though the government was considering shifting of army from Tosamaidan to Gurez, the lawmaker from the constituency, Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi Wednesday said that there is no land available in his borough to accommodate them.
Gurezi told KNS, Government should take Ladakh into the consideration to accommodate army. I believe Ladakh is suitable place to shift army from Tosamaidan, he said.
He said that there is little place left in Gurez which people there use to take cattle for grazing forests. Do you want them to stop, he asks government.
Gurezi said that the government was considering Gurez to accommodate army from Tosamaidan but, that is against the aspirations of people living in his constituency.
Pertinently, several government departments have also opposed the setting up of the proposed field firing range in Gurez area of north Kashmirs Bandipora district citing serious consequences of any such move.
Reports said that the state government is exploring possibilities of setting up field firing range (FFR) for Armys artillery exercises after the army submitted a detailed proposal for the allotment of a huge chunk of land in Gurez Valley for this purpose.
Departments including PHE, Tourism, Forest, Wildlife, Executive Engineer Special Sub-Division Gurez and MLA Gurez have strongly opposed the army move and have written to government not to consider any such proposal. (KNS)
