Jammu: City Judge Jammu Wednesday directed Inspector General of Police to inquire into the allegations leveled against the incumbent Forest Minister Lal Singh and submit its report in a sealed cover on 30 June this month.
At least 13 persons from Gujjar community have filed a petition in the court of law seeking registration of an FIR against Forest Minister and BJP leader Lal Singh for his controversial remarks. The petitioners have alleged that they had approached Singh at his official residence at Gandhi Nagar on May 18 in connection with issues pertaining to their orchard land. The Minister asked for our names and after knowing that we are from a particular community (Muslims) used abusive language against our community without listening to our pleas and said Oye Gujroo tum 1947 bhool gaye ho (You Gujjars, have you forgotten 1947) reads the petition filed by the farmers in the court of law.
At least four lakh Muslim residents of Jammu were massacred by communal forces in 1947, described by historians as a planned cleansing of the community from the region.
Taking note of the petition City Judge Jammu Manjeet Singh Manhas according to news agency CNS directed Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone to probe into allegations and submit a detailed report before him on 30 June this month. IGP is directed to conduct a fair inquiry into the allegations and submit the report before this court in a sealed cover on the next date of hearing that will take place on 30 June this month, the City Judge directed.
