‘Molester’ teacher held in Pulwama


Srinagar: A teacher was arrested Wednesday on charges of molesting a teenage student at Kowai Bagh village in Pulwama even as scores of people staged massive protests demanding stern action against the culprit.
According to reports, a teacher namely Mukhtar Ahmad at Government Middle School in Kowai Bagh, Kakapora in Pulwama allegedly molested a an 8th grader inside the school on Tuesday. As per locals, the accused teacher molested the girl inside the school.
The protesters while lashing out at the accused said that other teachers of the school are ‘backing up even as he has committed a heinous crime’. “This is highly shameful that the nation builders are standing in support of a molester. The government should take action against all of them and ensure that the accused teacher is terminated from his service,” they added.
Police have arrested the teacher and lodged him in Pulwama police station. “We have registered a case under FIR no. 196/2016 under section 376, 511, 356 B RPC against him and started investigation,” a police official said. Meanwhile the Education Department has placed the accused under suspension and started probe at the level of the Department.
According to the CEO Pulwama, Abdul Khaliq, an inquiry has been ordered and two senior masters has been appointed to probe the incident.
“I immediately suspended Mukhtar Ahmad Mir was and attached him with ZEO office Awantipora”, CEO said.
