We don’t want to see 2008 repeated again as our economy is already in a shaking state. My request to all intelligentsia is to oppose the move.
Further I would like to express that present govt is the first ever which is speaking dual language. Mehbooba Mufti on the one side is shrugging her shoulders while denying any proposal for Sainik-Colony and on the other side her ideological opponents and shareholders in her government openly profess the contradictory while saying every Indian has a right to reside anywhere in India including Jammu and Kashmir. Irony is that head of the state government is having no command over her comrades. But, I hereby feel no hesitation while saying that the plan envisages settling non-permanent resident retired soldiers in J&K, amounts to virtual scraping of the state’s special status covertly. As recently, MLA Engineer Rashid also stated that ‘Such move will further alienate the overwhelming majority of the state at a time when the support for retaining and strengthening the Article 370 and special status of the state was rapidly growing’. I being a law student takes the matter as gross violation of Article 370 of the Constitution of India. Intellectual class of kashmir may infer that this motivated move may be the hidden item of the ‘Agenda of Alliance’ and it will definitely generate the opponent feelings towards so called self-rule philosophy. I hereby want to put it into the pleasant consideration of Mehbooba Mufti that don’t bow before BJP Ideology and remember the days when opposition to mission 44+ was your burning campaign and on the basis of same you won the hearts of dishearted. It will be a blunder and will dilute the image of your party here in kashmir. Is your government trying to re-enact the 2008 turmoil where a PDP government set the state on fire in violation of the special status by giving away hundreds of kanals of land to the Shrine Board in violation of legal norms, Article 370 and other constitutional provisions?
It is not only me who is feeling such; even former occupants of your hot chair also stated that as ‘PDP-BJP government’s glaring contradictions on the Sainik colony proposal has given rise to apprehensions about underlying political motive.’ Meaning hereby everyone here is against the motion.
The plan is certainly a sinister move, an attempt to change the demography and patent violation of legal norms like Article 370, international resolutions etc and the fact is that special status gas been granted to our state and lines on such basis cannot be touched till its final solution. Thus, it will be in the best interest of the state and the country at large that the plan, if envisioned, should be renounced and let the matter into the realm of permanent solution which is indeed good for peace in South Asia.
