Locals to get jobs in vital projects in JK: Veeri

SRINAGAR:Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Public Works, Mr Abdul Rehman Veeri today said that government would ensure that local youth would get jobs on preferential terms in all vital projects being executed in the State.

“We have taken up the matter with concerned companies wherein they have been directed to give priority to the local skilled as well as unskilled youth,” Veeri informed the House while replying to a question by Mr Devinder Singh Raina.

“I would like to inform the House on behalf of Chief Minister that all necessary measures would be taken for absorbing the locals in these projects,” he said adding that the matter was of importance for the government. He said that the government has issued a number of orders wherein norms have been fixed for employment of locals by the Industries in the State. He said that the cumulative share of local employees shall be minimum of 55 per cent of the total employees in a unit, adding that there shall be increase of minimum of 5 per cent  every year eventually upto 90 per cent in all the categories.

The Minister informed the House that in all 134527 local skilled and unskilled youth have been engaged by the industrial and infrastructural companies in the State.

Mian Altaf, Mr Usman Majeed and Mr MY Tarigami raised the supplementaries to main question and pleaded for absorbing maximum of local youth in all the vital projects being executed across the State by national/international companies.
