Srinagar: – Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Abdul Haq today informed in the Legislative Council that the government is taking measures to keep a check on conversion of agriculture land for construction and other non-agricultural purposes.
The Minister was replying, on behalf of Minister in-charge Agriculture, to a question of Master Noor Hussain in the Legislative Council today.
Abdul Haq informed that the Government has already enacted an act, The Jammu and Kashmir Prohibition or Conversion of Agricultural Land for Non-Agricultural Purposes Act, 2011´, to arrest the menace of conversion of Agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes strictly in the State. He informed that Section 133-A of the J&K Land Revenue Act, also empowers the Revenue Authorities to keep check on the conversion of land.
Intervening in the main question, Minister for Revenue, Relief & Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Ahmed Bukhari informed that Patwaris and other revenue officials would receive their monthly salaries only after they certify that no agricultural land in their respective areas has been converted for commercial or residential purposes, saying that the government will soon issue circular in this regard where the notification would be made public. He also asked the Chief Secretary to issue immediate instructions to all Deputy Commissioners to make sure that any kind of construction on agricultural land should be stopped immediately.
