After 7 months, family accuses police officer of rape

Srinagar: Seven months after the episode, police Wednesday arrested an officer after a girl accused him of rape inside the police station Khour.
Police initiated action after a group of people protested outside police station demanding arrest of the accused officer the then Station House Officer Muhammad Iqbal Chagatta.
Shortly after the arrest of the accused officer, police constituted a Special Investigating Team (SIT) headed by SDPO Akhnoor Gurinder Pal Singh to probe the allegations.
While talking to CNS, Gurinder Pal Singh said that the alleged incident has occurred last year on 15 October. “My job is to probe the matter. I will submit my report soon after the completion of inquiry,” he said.
Giving details about the alleged incident a top police official said that during the first week of October the family members from Chowki Choriyal area lodged a complaint that her daughter (name withheld) had been abducted by a local boy. Acting upon the compliant the accused SHO constituted a team and the duo were tracked down within 15 days. “Both the boy and the girl were lodged in police station and later on the girl was handed over to the family,” he said and added it was after the lapse of seven month that family members accused police officer of rape.“A SIT has been constituted to ascertain the facts,” he added.
Pertinently, in August last year, three cops including SHO Surinder Raina of the same police station were placed under suspension after the case of alleged custodial death took place in Police Station Khour. (CNS)
