Students protest against ‘three-fold’ fee hike

Srinagar: Students of the colleges affiliated to Kashmir University Tuesday protested against the recent fee hike order of the university council.

Large number of students from different colleges assembled here in Press Enclave and raised slogans against Kashmir University demanding immediate roll back of fee hike.

Carrying placards and banners, the protesting students said that Kashmir University has made three-fold examination fee hike. “Earlier I was supposed to pay Rs 1150 but now I am asked to pay Rs 3375. This is sheer injustice towards the students. Instead of minting money from the poor students, the Kashmir University should find ways and means to improve the standard of education,” said Tufail Ahmed, a Bachelor of Engineering student.

Earlier the students boycotted classes and staged protest in front of Dean Students Welfare and then outside VCs chamber, where they chanted slogans against the administration. Thereafter students staged a protest in Press Enclave to attract the attention of media.

Many of the students present in the protest held the view that there is a massive fee hike everywhere including examination, reappear, reevaluation, admission, hostel and expressed grave concern that the university has hiked it up to 900% in some particular cases.

The protest was organized by All Jammu and Kashmir Students Union.
