Kashmiris won’t be cowed down by military might, says Mirwaiz

Srinagar: Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said that the detentions and house confinement of the resistance leadership and using military might was not going to cow down the people of Kashmir.

He made these remarks while “strongly condemning” the killing of 18-year-old Arif Hussain Dar and seriously injuring of other three unarmed civilians at Nutnoosa in Kupwara today.

Termed it as “completely barbaric and inhuman”, the Mirwaiz has called for a complete shutdown on Saturday to register protest against these killings.

He said that by staging protest demonstrations throughout entire Kashmir and Chenab Valley, people had expressed their emotions and aspirations as well as their ire against the civilian killings by the government forces.

“For the past three decades, despite dealing the struggle of the Kashmiri people for their just rights with an iron hand, the rulers had failed to suppress the aspirations of the people and the resolve of the resistance leadership in the past and would fail to do so in the future as well,” said Mirwaiz in a statement to CNS on Friday.

Appealing the international community to take note of the recent killings of innocent unarmed civilians at Handwara and Kupwara besides human rights violations in entire Kashmir, the APHC Chairman said they need to come forward to play a role in helping resolve Kashmir issue as per the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiris.
