Srinagar: Reacting to the news report published in Kashmir Observer on Friday, April 01, 2016 entitled Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh Flyover: A Kolkotta in offing?, the Asia Development Bank (ADB) has constituted a four-member team to review the progress of the ongoing projections vis-à-vis safety measures being undertaken.
The team visited various sites which include construction sites of Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh expressway corridor, Multilevel parking facility at KMDA, Athwajan drainage project along highway bye-pass, Mehjoor bridge, revamping of pumping stations along the banks of Jhelum River in Srinagar which was followed by a meeting with ERA officers including Chief Executive Officer Vinod Sharma, Malik Basharat Ahmad, Director Central , J&K ERA, Mir Iqbal Project Manager, JKUSDIP (T) , Zulfiqar Hussain Project Manager, JKUSDIP Hyderabad.
Chief Executive Officer, J&K ERA in a meeting informed the visiting team that till date Rs 818 crores have been spent by J&K ERA under the ongoing JKUSDIP funded by Asian Development Bank.
ERA is in the process of preparing the safety improvement plan for the flyover projects. A third party safety audit from a national level reputed engineering institute is also being considered.
Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon Tuesday in a meeting convened to review the safety of under construction Rambagh-Jehangir Chowk Flyover project said that safety of any project should be of utmost importance.
The Div Com instructed the concerned for safety audit of flyover to be taken up as soon as possible. He was assured by the officials that the visual safety audit would be completed within a fortnight and complete design safety audit would be completed within three months.
The meeting was informed that adequate measures have been taken in accordance with norms of Asian Development Bank to ensure safety of life and property. It was given out in the meeting that 12 slabs have already been for the under construction flyover and work is going on in full swing.
Meanwhile, the Divisional Commissioner reviewed the steps being taken to implement the traffic diversion plan. He asked the officials of Traffic Department, R&B, SDA and SMC to prepare roads, remove encroachments on various roads so that the traffic diversion starts smoothly. He asked officials to complete all formalities to start alternate traffic diversion.
The meeting was informed that once the traffic diversion plan is implemented the work on Rambagh flyover will also be speeded up.
