Srinagar: Srinagar Municipal Corporation today launched a grand sanitation drive here. The drive that was kick started by Commissioner SMC Bashir Ahmed Khan started here from Central Municipal Office Karan Nagar and involved all the sanitary workers of the Corporation.
SMC in a statement said these sanitary workers were deputed in different zones of the city along with the machinery to conduct multiple sanitation drives throughout the city for continuous fifteen days.
The main thrust of the drive is to create awareness among general public regarding the use of dustbins and to do away with littering of surroundings, it said.
According to SMC spokesperson, besides conducting drives at other places, the civic body also deputed its sanitation staff in bulk to sanitize SKIMS, High Court, Police Head Quarters at Batamaloo and other public places.
In the coming days all the Government institutions including Hospitals, Colleges, Schools, Ration Depots, fly-overs, bridges, traffic signals and other organisations will undergo a major sanitation drive, in which various schools, NGOs, locals and Government bodies shall have an active participation, it said.
Meanwhile Commissioner SMC also convened a meeting to review Adhaar Progress with the concerned officers and directed them to speed up the biometric process.
He passed on directions to keep the centres active that has already been set up in different Municipal Wards throughout the day and expedite with the biometric examination. (PTK)
