SRINAGAR: Public sale of Conifer plants in Srinagar was inaugurated by Chief Conservator Forests (CCF), Kashmir, Mr. Nisar Ahmad at the sale Centre established by Urban Forestry Division, Srinagar at P C Depot Qamarwari and Forest Headquarter, Sheikh Bagh on March, 23 which shall continue till April 07.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Conservator said that plantation drive has been already started across valley to augment natural regeneration in degraded and under stocked forests besides extending the green cover in the urban and peri-urban areas. The focus is on planting indigenous conifer of Deodar, Kail and Fir. He said the sale centres have been established for convenience of the public and about 0.30 lakh conifer saplings will be sold on nominal rate of Rs.13.50/plant. He also informed that mobile vans will also be deployed for the sale of conifer saplings.
Divisional Forest Officer, Urban Forestry Division. Srinagar, Hakim Mukhtar informed that plantation drive has also been launched under institutional component to cover available spaces in schools, colleges and government offices.
Among others, Conservator of Forests, Zahoor Ahmad Jan, DFOs and Range officers of the Department and sister concerns besides social activist Nazir-Be-Nazir was present on the inauguration function.
