Reckless driving claims 2 lives in Kulgam


Kulgam: In two separate incidents of rash driving in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, two minors were killed on Monday.

According to the eyewitnesses, a five-year-old girl, Iram Jan daughter of Shabir Ahmed Chowhan of Khokharhama village died on spot when a speedy van hit her at Pariwan village. 

The driver fled from the spot, however police said that they have registered a case vide FIR number 64/2016 under section 337,279 and efforts are on to nab the accused driver.

In another incident, a ‘speedy’ private vehicle (JK18-1468) hit a three-year- old boy Haris Javid Hajam at Shurat village. He was immediately rushed to hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. “The erring driver Jahangir Ahmed, a resident of Bogund Kulgam has been arrested under vide FIR number 64/2016 under section 337,279 RPC.”

3 critical in Ganderbal road accident

SRINAGAR: Four persons were injured on Monday in a road accident in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

The  accident took place on Srinagar-Leh highway near Haripora Ganderbal on Monday resulting in the injury to four persons.

A police official said that the injured were rushed to Public Health Centre Wussan. Three among the injured are stated to be critical and have been referred to SKIMS Soura.

The 110-KM Batote-Kishtwar highway that remained closed for over a week due to landslides trigged by inclement weather has been restored for traffic on Monday, reports said.

The highway has got damaged at various spots due to landslides.
