DC Kulgam inaugurates Sericulture Mela


 KULGAM: The Sericulture Development Department Kulgam Friday organized one-day Kisan Mela cum awareness camp at Town Hall Kulgam under centrally sponsored scheme Advance Technology Management Agency (ATMA) in which 200 progressive Silk farmers participated

District Development Commissioner, Syed Abid Rasheed, while presiding over the function urged the farmers to use the latest technology to increase the Cocoon production in the district. He said the need of the hour is to focus and expand the professional skills of silk worm farmers.

 It was given out that the Sericulture Development Department has distributed as many as 60 lakh mulberry plants among the farmers besides the annual cocoon production of the district had reached up to22,000 kgs which has fetched  an income of Rs 35 lakhs to the farmers of the district.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Director Sericulture Development Department informed that efforts are being made to modernize the department so that the progressive farmers will get good quality seeds and marketing facilities.

On the occasion the Deputy Commissioner while having deliberations with progressive farmers said, all the Mulberry Nurseries in the district would be fenced and registered under revenue records so that a proper mechanism for their upliftment is made.

  It is pertinent to mention that under Catalytic Development Program (CDP), a centrally sponsored initiative as many as 129 beneficiaries of Kulgam have been given a financial assistance of Rs 1.29Cr for construction of rearing sheds in the year 2014-15.
