Srinagar: Close relatives of the businessman Mohammad Yasir Shirazi of Hasanabad who was attacked in Russia by some local goons confirmed that he has succumbed to his injuries in a hospital on Wednesday even as some newspapers claimed he was still alive but in a critical condition.
Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj confirmed the death of Kashmiri medical student who was reportedly in coma after attack by local goons.
In a tweet, Sushma Swaraj said, I am pained to inform that Yasir-an Indian medical student from Srinagar has succumbed to his injuries in Russia.
Sources close to Kashmir Observer revealed that Yasir is not a medical student as reported but a businessman who frequented Russia to see his younger brother Mohammad Iqbal who conducts exhibitions there.
The incident had came to light after Murtaza Jaffar, a friend of Yasir, informed External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj through tweet which read,@SushmaSwaraj maam a kashmiri medical student has been attacked by local goons in Russia, he is in coma. Lost his money n documents too. SOS.
After the tweet, Sushma Swaraj had offered help and had tweeted, I have got complete report on Yasir. An Indian Doctor is treating him in Kazan Trauma Centre in Russia.
Yasir comes of a respectable family whose father Javed Hussain Shirazi is the president of Husaini Welfare Organisation, Hasanabad.
A late night report carried out by a newspaper quoting Yasirs uncle had suggested that he was alive but in a critical condition.
Yasir showed some positive signs last night when his younger brother visited him at the trauma centre. Later, his condition deteriorated and he is in a critical state, the paper quoted Ali Mohammad Shirazi as having said.
