Rifle snatching bid: Another suspect arrested


Kulgam:  Police on Monday claimed to have arrested another youth who had made an abortive bid to snatch a rifle from a employee guarding State Bank of India (SBI), Kaimoh-branch from Wanpoh area of this South Kashmir district. Police identified the arrested youth as Wasim Ahmed Bhat son of Muhammad Akbar a resident of Qaimou Kulgam. Earlier on Saturday, police had arrested Altaf Ahmad Sheikh son of Muhamad Akbar of Astan Mohalla area of Kaimoh town of Kulgam district.

 On Feberuary, 24 last month, a rifle snatching bid was foiled, when two unknown persons had attempted to snatch a rifle from SBI guard in Kaimoh town after spraying chili powder into his eyes. The guard, Shafiq Ahmad- a retired police constable had however, managed to hold on to his rifle.

Reports said that the father of the arrested youth Wasim Ahmed had died due to cardiac arrest on Sunday night while on Monday when tried to visit his family, he was apprehended by a joint team of police and Army men from 9 Rashtriya Rifles. While confirming the incident, a police official said that with the arrest of Wasim, the case has been solved as both the ‘culprits’ have landed into police lock up. (CNS)
