Protest against LAWDA in Srinagar


Srinagar: The inhabitants of Brein, Nishat, Shalimar, Harwan Friday staged a protest here against Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) for not allowing them to repair their houses.

The protest was held under the banner of Shia Action Committee amalgam of different bodies. The protesters said that the people in these areas are on hunger strike from past six days while authorities are unmoved and in no mood to redress their problems.    

“Government is aware about the fact that many houses got damaged in September floods in 2014. Despite this, LAWDA does not allow us to repair our houses,” said Zakir Muhammad Yousuf adding that unsafe house pose risk to their lives.

The protesters told CNS that they have every right to live which they are being denied.

The protesters claimed that their houses are located outside the prohibited zones.“For obtaining permission, we have to complete lengthy formalities and it takes not less than six months to complete the procedure,” they said and appealed Governor to look into the matter. (CNS)
