BANDIPORA: Locals from Sumbal Sonawari area of District Bandipora Friday staged a protest appealing anti-graft body Vigilance Organization to register a case against the officials of Irrigation and Flood Control Department of Sumbal Division. The protesters alleged that I&FC officials from Sumbal Division have encouraged unscrupulous elements to an extent that they resort to illegal sand extraction in broad day light.
The protesters said that certain contractors in league with Executive Engineer I&FC Sumbal Division have been resorting to loot, instead of proper de-slitting and dredging they have been extracting sand illegally from different spots of Sumbal area including Chanderger, Hajin, Baniyari, Inderkoot, Ganistan, Naninara, Baharabad, Asham, Hakbara and Kathpora, Rakh-e-Asham and later trading it illegally.
Sand mafia has nexus with I&FC officials and this nexus paves the way for huge monetary losses to the state exchequer. We appeal Vigilance Organization to probe the matter without any delay, one of the protesters Nazir Ahmed told CNS.
