Woman, cop injured during anti-PDD protest


SRINAGAR: A woman and a cop were injured during anti-PDD protest in Kachloo village of Qaziabad along Watergam-Handwara highway in north Kashmir.

Witnesses told GNS that scores of residents of Kachloo village this morning took to streets and blocked Watergam-Handwara highway over the non-repairing of a damaged transformer.

The protesters alleged that 60 KV transformer in their village developed snag two twice in past 3 months, leaving entire village in darkness. “We many a times requested PDD authorities to replace the low capacity transformer with high one so it can bear the load of all households of the village. However they never heard our plea,” they said.

The protesters blocked the highway, resulting in massive traffic jam. As the protest intensified, police swung into action and fired teargas shells to disperse the protesters. A woman identified as Zamroda Bano was injured in police action and she was shifted to SDH Handwara for treatment. A policeman was hit by a stone of protesters leaving in severely injured and he got 6 stitches on his head.

Earlier, the concerned Tehsildar along with other officials rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the protesters. However the protesters continued their protest after which police used force. (GNS)
