Srinagar:- 92.7 Big FM recently held a marathon session of nonstop, continuous entertainment for 111 hours . The marathon session was to be held by just one Radio Jockey (RJ) at a stretch and it had to be interactive and iterative.

Initially, the marathon stretch was slated to be on air for 92.7 hours to coincide with the radio station’s name but it was then winged and stretched to 111 hours. This is and was no mean feat. About 25 RJ’S from all over India participated but only two managed to complete the session- RJ Sardar Nasir Ali Khan from Kashmir and RJ Prateek from Delhi.  Completion of this gruelling and challenging feat by a fellow Kashmiri is wonderful and even inspiring.

On being asked, ‘what helped him complete the marathon, RJ Nasir, with humility, attributed his success to the people. He said, “It was the warm encouragement received by him on a minute to minute basis that helped him not only over come self doubts but also the necessary energy and determination to see through the marathon to its end”.

Upon being asked, what gave him the impetus and drive at a personal level to see through what can be called a gruelling odyssey, RJ Nasir said, “It was again people’s support that saw me through but if I asked about my motivation, I would attribute it to persistence to reach and arrive at a set goal”. “See I don’t have a plan B. I never have had plan B’s. I work hard and stay focused and with God’s help, I stay so focused and persevere so hard that I ensure that my plan A succeeds,” added R J Nasir.

Nasir also had a message for the youth of Kashmir striving and working for their goals and ambitions in different domains. According to Nasir, “the youth should set goals- concrete goals and then work gradually to reach these goals”. By way of analogy, RJ Nasir cited the example of the marathon. “See, I broke down the initial 92.7 hour stretch and then the 111 hour end goal to small periods. I took a 10 hour benchmark first and once it was over another 10 hours and so on till I completed the task”.  “This is what our young folk should also do,” added Nasir.

So what was the major impediment to your youth? What prevents them from reaching their goals,’ we asked Nasir. The renowned RJ had both a philosophical as well as practical suggestion. He said, “Our youth need platforms where they can broach and discuss ideas but key here was also receptive audiences.”

RJ Nasir’s exceptional success, in a nut shell, was and can be attributed to grit, confidence determination, tenacity and encouragement.  There is both a broad and a particular message in this.  Our youth should and must learn to imbibe these qualities in them and then aim for the stars. Of course, the environmental stimulus should be always present. This would include support, validation and encouragement from society. If these ingredients are present, then God favors the bold and the determined and success is theirs for the taking. As RJ Nasir concluded, “everything is achievable”.
