Srinagar: The state government on Wednesday accorded sanction to the constitution of State Level Empowered Committee (SLEC) under Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission (SPMRM) in the state.
Headed by Chief Secretary, the 16-member committee has been asked to make recommendation and approve the integrated Cluster Action Plan (ICAP) and the DPRs of the clusters received from the State Nodal Agency i.e. Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj for submission to the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.
It has also been tasked to take overall responsibility for the effective coordination and implementation of the scheme.
Serviced by the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, the government said that committee shall meet quarterly.
In an ambitious bid to transform rural areas to economically, socially and physically sustainable spaces, the scheme with an outlay of Rs. 5142.08 crores was approved by cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
It aims at development of rural growth clusters which have latent potential for growth, in all States and UTs, which would trigger overall development in the region. These clusters would be developed by provisioning of economic activities, developing skills & local entrepreneurship and providing infrastructure amenities. The Rurban Mission will thus develop a cluster of Smart Villages.
