6 booked for shavingman’s head in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: Police in Bhara Kahu have booked six persons for shaving a man’s head, beard and mustache because of his alleged relationship with a woman. Zuber Arif told the police that Nazak along with five other unidentified persons intercepted him in a market in Maira Begwal village and shaved his head, beard and mustache. He said the suspects also threatened to kill him. Police have registered a case against the suspects. Police said they were conducting raids to arrest the suspects.

In June 2014, a woman accused her husband of shaving her head before divorcing her in the name of honour in the city.

Shifa Bibi*, 29, of Mohallah Thanda Choha, Nawanshehr, told the police her parents had married her off to Asif, son of Hussain of Mirpur village. She added they had two children and after two years Asif entered into another marriage.  “After thrashing me, they (Asif’s mother and second wife) locked me in a room and waited for Asif to return. He then beat me black and blue and shaved my hair off with a razor before divorcing me,” Shifa told the police. She added Asif also forcibly took their two minor children into his custody.
