Anantnag Feb3:- Residents of Mattan Chowk Anantnag are facing tough time due to damage of the water pipes resulting in leakages.
The department has failed to repair the leakages even as the matter was brought to its notice several times by local residents.
Residents told to Kashmir Observer that the water has not only damaged recently macadamized roads in the area but has also entered into the residential houses, yards, lanes and bylanes.
Locals accused Public Health Engineering (PHE), department of failing to plug the leakages. There are nearly half a dozen spots where pipes have suffered leakages in our area. Old pipes and newly laid ones have been damaged. With water having entered our houses it has not only created problems for pedestrians, but walls of houses have developed cracks, said Sajad Hussain a resident of Mattan chowk. He further said that even as they took up the issue with the concerned department several times in the past, no action was taken to address the problem. PHE officials every time say they will address the problems but all the leakages have not been repaired yet.
Kashmir Observer tried to contact Divisional Commissioner Anantnag but his phone was out of reach.
