SRINAGAR: Press Information Bureau (PIB) Srinagar organised a day long workshop for the working journalists of Pulwama and Shopian districts at District Administration Centre Pulwama on Saturday.
The workshop, titled as Vartalap, is aimed to act as a direct interface between PIBs Regional/Branch offices and the journalists working at district and sub-district levels. The workshop is part of PIBs media outreach strategy with the aim of establishing direct contact with working journalists.
The proceedings of the workshop were chaired by Shri Ghulam Abbas, Assistant Director (Media and Communication) PIB Srinagar who stressed upon the need to give preference to proactive development journalism in the state so that people at grassroots can be made aware about the schemes being run by central and state governments for the welfare of the people. He urged the participating journalists to play a positive role in highlighting development issues and be a mirror to the government in the implementation of the welfare schemes.
The main objective of the workshop was to ensure effective communication and dissemination of information regarding government policies, programmes and schemes to the masses. Journalists serve as a vital link in the chain of information, and play a significant role in the process of establishing a direct two-way communication process between the administration and the citizens. The workshop aimed at deepening the level of communication and interaction between the journalists and the administration for the overall benefit of the citizens.
Over 60 working journalists from the twin districts of Pulwama and Shopian participated in the one day event. The journalists were sensitized about their role in highlighting local issues and making people aware in rural areas about benefits of centrally sponsored welfare schemes.
Special sessions about various nuances of development journalism and role of a local journalist viz-a-viz development in rural areas were also held in the workshop, which was addressed by a number of senior and experienced working journalists besides other trainers. Shafiq Ahmad Qureshi, Deputy Director (News) Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar was among the experts who spoke at the workshop.
