MelbourneThe Cricket Australian selectors have included the uncapped duo of Scott Boland and Joel Paris in the 13-man squad that will take on India in a five-match One-Day International series.
Paris, who is renowned for his skills in the limited overs cricket had an impressive Matador One-Day Cup, where he picked 10 wickets from the six matches for the Western Australia.
Following an injury layoff, he returned back for the Sheffield Shield where he ended up with 14 wickets in the two matches with best figures of 116 for eight in the game.
Boland on the other hand who was included in the Australian Test squad against West Indies as a reserve has 72 first-class wickets from just 27 matches at an average of 30.70 for Victoria.
The chief selector Rod Marsh lauded the duo’s performances in domestic cricket and hoped they can replicate the same at the international level.
“Scott has continued to impress the selection panel, having bowled very well for Victoria this year,” said Marsh.
“He certainly deserves this chance at the top level. Joel is an exciting young left-arm bowler who swings the ball well and has bowled beautifully in the Big Bash League for the Perth Scorchers.
He has had very good figures in short-form cricket and we really want him to make the most of this opportunity.”
Another player, who is staging a comeback is South Australia’s Kane Richardson with his last international appearance coming in November 2014.
Richardson has managed eight wickets in as many ODIs and is expected to lead the attack in the absence of Mitchell Starc, James Pattinson and Pat Cummins.
“Kane has had a taste of cricket at the international level and although that has been interrupted on occasions through injury we think he is ready to perform consistently for Australia,” added Marsh.
Also, all-rounder James Faulkner returns to the squad after being overlooked because of disciplinary reasons.
The selectors haven’t tinkered much with the batting though with Steven Smith captaining and David Warner as his deputy.
Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh will join the all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh while Matthew Wade will be taking the wicket-keeping role.
Shane Watson and Nathan Lyon were the notable omissions from the squad while Pattinson is believed to be rested after participating in the three Tests against West Indies.
Australia ODI squad: Steven Smith (captain), David Warner, Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh, George Bailey, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, Matthew Wade (wk), James Faulkner, Kane Richardson, Josh Hazlewood, Scott Boland, Joel Paris
The squad will assemble in Perth on January 8.
