SRINAGAR: A local court Friday extended the police remand of an army man accusing of abduction of three Kupwara villagers for two more days.
Three villagers Ghulam Jeelani Khatana, Mir Hussain Khatana, both residents of Gojar Patti (Satbonya) in Dardpora and Ali Muhammad Sheikh of Dolipora Trehgam are missing for the past many days, with their families saying they were lured by the Territorial Army man for some job in the Army and since November 17, their whereabouts are not known to anybody. Acting upon the complaint of the family members and subsequent directions from the court, police arrested the accused TA soldier Manzoor Kahwaja while as the court had given him to two days police remand on December 9.
After the expiry of the police remand the police produced the accused before the Judicial Magistrate Kupwara Mansoor Ahmad Lone who remanded him to two more days to police custody.
Deputy Inspector General of Police for North Kashmir Gareeb Das told local news agency CNS that the accused is being questioned and a special team comprising of SDPO, SHO Kralpora police station and other officers has been constituted to ascertain the facts.
Another police official on condition of anonymity said that the accused could not be questioned thoroughly because he was sick. Facts will surface within two days, he said.
