Lawyers Abstain from Work

SRINAGAR:-The Jammu and Kashmir Bar Association Tuesday said that it abstained from court work in protest against the killing of three militants in village Sirigam Ashmuqam and one in Kupwara forest.

“Later in a meeting held at lower court complex, Bemina, Srinagar it was stated by the members that in several villages of Kupwara people have been confined in their houses for the past ten days and there are neither allowed to move out nor to take out their cattle for grazing or to bring any kind of fodder for those cattle. It was also stated that in other areas of the state search operations are going on ruthlessness and in the name of fishing out of militants people are terrorized irrespective of their age and sex,” a Bar statement said this evening. “It was also stated that as there is no accountability therefore the forces fear none. They neither abide by domestic nor the international laws nor do whatever they want.”

The statement said, “though the situation in the state is alarming but the international community is watching the same as mute spectators and are not rendering any help or resistance to the people of the state for bringing an end to their sufferings and miseries.” “At this crucial juncture it is imperative for the pro-freedom leadership to unite and evolve a joint strategy to force India to concede to the Right of Self-Determination to the people of the state so that the blood bath which is going on in the state for the last 70 years is stopped.”
