3 Hizb Militants Killed In Aishmuqam

AISHMUQAM — Three local militants were killed during a search and cordon operation launched by the Indian Army here on Monday afternoon.

According to the sources an Army party from 3 RR came under fire at Tantraypora Silgam village near Ashmuqam when a search operation was launched there with the support of Special Operations Group of J&K Police.

Giving details an army spokesman said: “Acting on a tip off regarding presence of some militants in village Silgam near Aishmuqam, a team of Rashtriya Rifles and JKP launched a swift operation. As the Army and JKP approached the suspect house, the militants came out firing indiscriminately.”

“Exercising strict restraint to avoid any collateral damage to the civilians in the residential area, the Army engaged the three militants in a brief gun battle in which all three were eliminated,”he said.

A police official identified the slain militants as Sartaj Ahmed Lone, Aadil Ahmed Sheikh and Tanvir Ahmed Bhat, all residents of Bijbehara town. “They were active from quite some time in the district,” said a police official said, adding that arms, ammunition and other war-like stores were recovered from the slain militants.

The killing of these militants sparked a spontaneous shutdown in Bijbehara where large number of people took to streets and raised pro-freedom slogans.

Meanwhile in a statement Police said that three militants of  HM  outfit were killed in an encounter in Ashmuqam area of Anantnag district this afternoon.

Acting on a specific information about the presence of militants in Siligam Ashmuqam area, Police, 3-RR and CRPF cordoned off the area and launched the search operation. Hiding militants opened fire on the joint search party and encounter broke. The encounter ended with the elimination of three militants of HM outfit.

The slain  militants were identified as Sartaj Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone resident of Wopzan, Bijbehara,  Adil Ahmad Sheikh son of Fayaz Ahmad resident of Sheikh Mohalla, Bijbehara and Tanveer Ahamd Bhat son of Mubarak Ahmad Bhat resident of Baba Mohalla Bijbehara.

Aadil Sheikh was involved in the killing of a policeman Arif Nazir Khan of Police Station Bijbehara on 16th June this year.

Tanveer was involved in the killing of a civilian Javid Ahamd Sofi @ Waza son of Mohammad Ismail resident of Bijbehara. Javid was killed by militants on 22-03-2015 at New Colony Bijbehara.

03 AK-47 riffles, 06 magazines, 01UBGL, 03 UBGL  Grenade, 01 pistol with magazine were recovered from the encounter site. 


1 Killed In Kupwara

Army Monday said it shot dead an unidentified militant In Kupwara. “One militant was gunned down by the army jawans in a fresh firing at Kupwara. The search operation is still going on. The slain militant has not been identified yet,” Army spokesperson NN Joshi said.

He added that on Monday morning a brief exchange of firing took place between the two sides and soon additional teams of security forces were rushed to the area to prevent other militants from escaping. “During the operation, the Army managed to kill one of the militants and rest is suspected to be hiding in a nearby jungle area.”

Pertinently, On November 17, the Commanding Officer of 41 Rashtriya Rifles Colonel Santosh, who was leading a search party, was killed when militants hiding in a dense forest area of Haji Naka opened fire.

On Sunday, a Lieutenant-Colonel of 160 Territorial Army was severely injured during a combing operation with terrorists at Handwara area. Since last Saturday, based on sources information about the suspicious movement of militants, the army has launched a search operation against them in Bhawan village in Handwara.
