AIIMS at Awantipora: Pampore residents up in arms

Srinagar:  Residents of saffron town of Pampore and its adjacent hamlets are unhappy at governments decision to establish AIIMS at neighbouring Awantipora  and have threatened  agitation if decision was not revoked.

“We will block Srinagar-Jammu highway from Friday to protest against PDP led government for its failure to set up All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) at Galandar Pampore.

“Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and other Cabinet Ministers had given us repeated assurance that they would get an ‘appropriate order’ from the central government to set up AIIMS at Galandar Pampore. But we were shocked after the Health Minister Lal Singh identified land at Awantipora for the purpose,” the locals said.

“Locals from Pampore and its adjacent hamlets including Chandhara, Shaar, Patlibagh, Androos, Khrew, Wuyen, Kakapora held a meeting on Thursday and decided to start protests from Friday. PDP betrayed us and kept us in dark. We had already conveyed to Chief Minister and Divisional Commissioner that we are ready to provide 395 kanals of land free of cost for setting up AIIMS at Galandar Pampore,” the locals said  adding that people will held  protests on daily basis from Friday.
