Srinagar: In a bid to propagate the concept of Hijab among Muslim women, a Delhi based organization Thursday launched its campaign in from Government College for Women, MA Road here.
Scores of activists of the organization assembled outside the College and distributed pamphlets and flowers among female students urging them to don hijab.
Eyewitnesses said that scores of female activists from International Muslim Unity Council (IMUC) interacted with College going female students and made lectured them about the importance of Hijab in Islam. I think it is important for everyone to try to understand and experience Kashmiri, particularly Islamic cultures and We wanted to encourage Muslim women to don the hijab and experience it. When Muslim women can insist on hijab in countries like France where it is banned, why cant Muslim women do it here which is the sacred land of Sufi Saints and where Muslims are in majority, said another activist.
IMUC according to activists has already started its campaigns in Delhi, Lucknow and Hyderabad and now it is focusing on Kashmir.
