SRINAGAR: Tense situation prevailed in Narbal and adjoining areas including Bemina and Qamarwari Wednesday ahead of a planned march to the home of slain Gowhar Nazir, killed by CRPF men from HMT camp as per his family last Saturday.
Sources said police has erected razor wires and barred the traffic movement near Degree College Bemina, Cement Bridge and Narbal to thwart the eruption of trouble.
Shops and other business establishments were closed while pedestrian movement was thin. Areas like Bemina, Qamarwani, Parimpora, Narbal and Zainakot wore deserted look. Police and paramilitary personnel in riot-gear manned the streets forcing people to stay indoors, sources said.
It is pertinent to mention here that senior separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani had issued a call for a march to HMT to protest against the killing of 22-year-old engineering student. The call was supported by many separatist groups.
