Path breaking Treatise in Urdu
Srinagar: Sehti Kaamil – a compendium of articles on health written by popular physician Dr Nazir Mushtaq-, was released here on Wednesday at an impressive function. These articles, appeared in local daily Urdu newspaper, Kashmir Uzma under Dr. Nazirs weekly column Fiqr-e-Sehat over a period of ten years. The function saw the presence of scores of distinguished people from all walks of life, including writers, journalists, and artists besides doctors.
The book launch that began with a Qawali session interspersed with many comical notes from the speakers animated the audience in the newly refurbished Tagore Hall.
The beautifully wood-carved double-decker venue saw old friends and colleagues come together to pay homage to their much admired colleague who has excelled both as a physician and storeyteller.
The 576-page book, published by Authint Media, was appreciated and held by many audience members, as an important piece of medical literature especially when Urdu language was on the decline. Theres a concerted effort from many quarters to nip the Urdu language, retired Justice Bashir Ahmad Kirmani who was the chief guest on the occasion, noted. Not only does this book serve as a medical guide but it is an effort to keep the candle of Urdu burning brightly.
Kirmani said that Mushtaqs book was a tremendous effort in the field of medicine. He said that readers especially patients would get a guide book into his work. Acknowledging the worth of the book in their speeches, several speakers lauded the effort and the hard work of the author while describing the book as a rare prescription. Apart from serving as a medical guide, the book reflects upon many ills that Kashmir is currently grappled with, said Farooq Nazki, an eminent poet. I wish whatever has been written in the book is followed in letter and spirit to establish a healthy society.
Noted doctor GQ Alaqband told the audience that he was awe struck at doctors, like Nazir Mushtaq, who manage to take time out of their busy schedule to fulfill their passion of writing.
Dr Javed Iqbal, who being a doctor himself and prolific writer described in detail the metamorphosis he and Nazir Mushtaq underwent while serving in Iran.
The rich culture of Iran made them realize the importance of their mother tongue. Iranians not only speak Farsi but they also make you speak to them in their language.
Describing the book as a piece of literature that stands out from the rest, journalist Shujaat Bukhari said the book was a priceless medical artifact: Our lives have been politically victimized and somehow that gets manifested in our writings in one or the other form, he said. Its a welcome development that something else has been added to our literature today.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Nazir Mushtaq said that the book wouldnt have seen the light of the day had his wife not stood by him through the thick and thin of his life: I never thought my articles would morph into a book but the comfort and ease that my wife provided me at pahse of my life inspired me to leave something behind, he said, while unsuccessfully hiding his tears. Gathering those scattered pieces, I dedicate this collection to none other than my wife.
According to publishers, the book is aimed at providing answers to the complex heath related questions in a most lucid way.
