SRINAGAR: Days before Prime Minister’s scheduled visit to Srinagar, two soldiers were killed in Gurez sector of north Kashmir’s Bandipore district as Pakistan army fired upon Indian posts, defence officials said here.
The officials said that two personnel of Territorial Army who were attached with 36 RR were killed when Pakistan army targeted Forward Posts at Tarbal in Gurez sector.
The slain troopers have been identified as Tariq Ahmad Lone, son of Ghulam Hussain, resident of Bakhtoor Gurez and Waseem Ahmad Lone, son of Ghulam Ahmad Lone, resident Mantra in Bandipore.
The defence officials said the Pakistan army targeted the Indian posts with small arms for several hours today afternoon.
A defence official based in Chinar Corps headquarters here confirmed the death of two soldiers and said: “Yes we have lost two of our men while they were performing their duties.”
Meanwhile, the forces manning the fence along with the additional reinforcement of army’s 3 SIKH, 13 SIKH have launched the searches in the area as it suspects that militants might have sneaked into this side, taking advantage of Pakistan firing.
