Governor releases “Poverty in Jammu and Kashmir State”

SRINAGAR: Governor N.N. Vohra, released G. A. Qureshi’s book “Poverty in Jammu and Kashmir State” at a function held at the Raj Bhavan today. The author briefed the Governor about certain salient issues covered in the book.

This volume is an endeavour by the author, who is a former Director General, Economics & Statistics, J&K, to present a comprehensive analysis of different aspects of the problem of poverty in J&K. The author has argued that poverty reduction cannot be achieved only by following certain economic policies but requires the implementation of a composite and well coordinated framework.

The Governor complimented Qureshi for the valuable work done by him to study poverty situation in the State. He hoped that the conclusions drawn in the book would be of considerable help to the planners in evolving poverty reduction relating policies.
