ANANTNAG: Following the complaints about over-charging in the installation of set-top boxes, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, G.H Sheikh today fixed the rates of set-top boxes after a meeting with the cable operators of the district.
The meeting decided to make purchase of the set-top boxes optional from the cable operators with a view to do away with their monopoly.
For this purpose, multiple choices will be provided to the customers in the purchase of set-top boxes. The cable operators will install set-top boxes with one year warranty and free service for which Rs. 1800 will be charged for SD, Rs. 2000 for MPEG and Rs. 2200 for HD set-top boxes.
As an alternative, the customers can purchase the set-top boxes without warranty and free service for which Rs. 1500 will be charged for SD, Rs. 1700 for MPEG and Rs. 1900 for HD.
Apart from this, customers will also have the option of purchasing the set-top boxes in the open market for which the cable operators will charge Rs 200 only as installation charges provided that CAS (Conditional Access System) in the set-top boxes has to be ABV or Logic Eastern compulsorily.
