Kashmir Inc Asks Jammu Traders To Make A Choice

SRINAGAR: The business community of Kashmir or Kashmir Inc representing a diverse set of interests, on Saturday, urged their business and trade counterparts in Jammu to take a stance on the VHP’s threat to impose an economic blockade on Kashmir Valley.

The VHP’s state unit President Leela Karan Sharma Friday threatened economic blockade of the Kashmir region and enforcement of stoppage of ration and other supplies to Valley in case Speaker allows discussion on anti-beef ban bill in the legislative Assembly.

Sharma while making this threat had also said that the blockade would be similar to one imposed in 2008.

Reacting sharply to the threats made by  Vishwa Hindu, representatives and leaders of Kashmir Inc  said that threat calls were an eye-opener  and that the RSS and its off shoots were responsible for the previous humanitarian crisis enforced on Kashmir seven years ago and that the same right wing forces were again hell bent to divide the state on regional and communal lines.

Addressing a press conference jointly called by the business community of Kashmir including Kashmir Economic Alliance, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries and the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation, Chairman KEA, Muhammad Yasin Khan said that a  bigger conspiracy against the people of Kashmir was growing apparent with each passing day as the right wing RSS which is a partner of the coalition government in the state through the BJP, was working on a game plan to divide the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Also asking PDP led government to clear its stand on the issue, Khan said that the ball was  in the court of Jammu Inc. “Now  Jammu Inc has to decide whether they want to go with the communal forces or they want to uphold their traditional business ties with Kashmir. Jammu Inc will have to clear its stand and go public otherwise their silence will be taken as support for the communal forces,” he said.

Similarly, the Kasmir Valley Fruit Growers cum Dealers Union, Srinagar,  in its meeting held under the Chairmanship of Bashir Ahmad Basheer at Central Office Fruit Marketing Complex Parimpora, Srinagar strongly condemned the recent anti-national statement by the President of Right wing Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Leela Karan Sharma.

Taking the stance of promoting amity between the Kashmir and Jammu regions, the Presidents and the Members of the Fruit Associations of Valley including  Srinagar, Baramulla, Sopore, Charar-e-Shareef, Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian and Kandi Pulwama in the same meeting expressed strong resentment against the anti nation statement by VHP President. They also appealed the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and industries to play an important and crucial role in foiling the nefarious programs of VHP.

The concerned authorities of  the State Government were also  appealed by the participants of the meeting to take stern and serious notice as warranted against the threats of VHP leaders and urged  severe punishment severely so that the brotherhood of the J&K State which has been maintained for centuries may not be disturbed.
