South Kashmir up in arms against Wildlife Deptt
ANANTNAG: A six-year-old girl, Shaheena Akhtar, resident of Badder Mahore in Reasi district was attacked by a leopard resulting in her on spot death.
Meanwhile, residents of Shahabad Verinag and Ringmandu areas of South Kashmirs Anantnag district protested against the Wildlife Department for its failure to check the attacks by wild animals on humans and livestock in the areas.
According to the residents, wild animals like bears and leopards appear in the villages in broad day light and attack humans and live stock.
My daughter Ruksana, 25, mother of two is battling for life in SKIMS Soura after she was attacked by a bear, Haji Abdul Rashid Chouhan said. From the past one month at least six persons including little children have been attacked by the wild animals.
Last week, a bear attacked and grievously injured an elderly person while a leopard devoured at least two cows in Ringmandu area, the residents said. We have been apprising the concerned officials about increasing bear and leopard attacks, but our repeated pleas have fallen to deaf ears.
