JAMMU: Hitting out at the separatist leaders and religious organisations in the Kashmir Valley for opposing the ban on sale of beef in J&K, Shri Ram Sena’s state president, Rajiv Mahajan Wednesday threteaned to burn down vehicles bringing bovine animals for slaughter into the state.
Mahajan said that it was not a new decision in the State but governed by Ranbir Penal Code, 1932 and warned the state government that Shri Ram Sena workers would set on fire those vehicles found involved in smuggling bovines from Lakahnpur to Banihal. He said that the responsibility of such acts would lie on the government.
He said that, as per law, the voluntary slaughter of any bovine animal shall be punished with imprisonment of 10 years and having possession of the flesh of slaughtered animals with imprisonment up to 1 year and fine. He advocated for stringent action under RPC 1932 against attempts of bovine smuggling.
He appealed to State Police chief to instruct police officers to maintain round the clock vigilance in every Nakas in the State to check bovine smuggling.
Asking that the bovine smuggling is done particularly in night, Rajiv Mahajan said that night patrolling should also be intensified in this regard.
He also said police should keep a check on the attempts of bovine smuggling or transportation and ensure that only milch animals, with proper documents are recommended for permission.
Majahan said that the smuggling of bovine animals won’t be tolerated. “If found, stern action will be initiated against the defaulter and the officer.”
He also appealed to insurance agencies not to provide any claim to those vehicle owners whose vehicles are found in transporting bovines illegally.
