Football returns to Eidgah after 10 years

SRINAGAR: Football— the sport Kashmir has produced many stars in— is being revived in Kashmir with traditional fervour with the first edition of City Invitational Football Tournament 2015 being played  here at Eidgah Ground from today.

The tournament is being played under the aegis of J&K Football Association and is being sponsored by SAIFCO CEMENTS PVT LTD. The tournament is a joint initiative of  Ex-Football players of the area and Safaloo Football Club.

President J&K Football Association Zameer Ahmad Thakur who also happens to be Joint Secretary State Sports Council was the chief uuest on the occasion.

“The event being held after 10 years is aimed at reviving football in this part of valley,” Ex-Chairman J&K Bank Sports Board, Abdul Hamid Banday, said.

Food and Supplies (F&S) won the exhibition match against Lonestar, 2-1. The first match of the tournament is scheduled on 13th September (Sunday) between Jehangir Sports and Al-Mansoor XI at 4pm.
