QRT team of CITH calls on Horticulture Minister


Veeri for laying frontline demonstration plots of high density apple at Block Level 

SRINAGAR: Minister for Horticulture, Haj and Auqaf, Mr. Abdul Rehman Veeri Wednesday had an interaction with Quick Response Team (QRT) of Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture (CITH) comprising Chairman, Dr. S. D. Shikhawany, Members Dr. R. P. Singh, Dr. K. Kumar, Dr. P. Anand Kumar, Dr. Sharan Angadi, Director, CITH, Dr. Nazeer Ahmed and Member Secretary, Dr. D. B. Singh.

The Committee while reviewing functioning of CITH briefed the Minister about the QRT.

Director CITH, Dr. Nazeer Ahmed gave details of technologies that have been developed at CITH and have been useful for the State Fruit Industry.

While speaking on the occasion, the Minister emphased on expansion of fruit industry by providing quality planting material, technological intervention and asked them to give priority to high density plants in apple orchards. He underlined need for laying demonstration plots of high density apple plants at block level by CITH besides disseminating modern cultivation technologies to the farmers and fruit growers of the State, adding that adoption of scientific farm technology can help in quality production with maximum yield.

The Minister also emphasized on nursery registration and plant certification.

Director CITH assured the Minister that the institution shall initiate early steps for demonstration and transfer of technologies to the farmers.
