SRINAGAR: A two-day national symposium on Biotechnological Interventions in Upgradation of Food Products of India began at the University of Kashmir on Wednesday.
The symposium, organized by the Universitys Department of Food Science & Technology, was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi.
Prof Andrabi stressed on the need to study quality attributes of food products at molecular level.
Highlighting importance of biotechnological procedures for improvement of food quality, Prof Andrabi narrated the success stories of golden rice and other GM-Crops.
Prof M Ashraf Wani, Dean Academic Affairs, emphasized on need-based research on food quality and adoption of inter-disciplinary approach for the same, while Prof Nilofer Khan, Dean Faculty of Applied Science & Technology, hailed the department for holding the symposium on a very crucial theme.
