SRINAGAR: Army on Wednesday celebrated golden jubilee of the 1965 Indo-Pak war describing it “a befitting tribute to the valour of Indian soldiers who thwarted invasion by a belligerent neighbour.”

The war, an army press statement read, was not scripted the way it unfolded.  “Pakistan wrote just the first chapter” the statement said. “What followed was a reactionary sequel.  The war started consequent to Pakistan’s launching Operation Gibraltar, which was designed to infiltrate forces into Jammu and Kashmir to precipitate an insurgency against the popularly elected Government.”
