Poonch: A civilian was killed and another injured as Indian and Pakistani armies exchanged gunfire along Line of Control  in Poonch district on Monday.

The Indian army accused Pakistan of violating 2003 ceasefire pact and resorting to firing. A senior official said that the Pakistan troopers fired on Indian positions today from 6 am to 2 pm at Saujian sector of the district which was retaliated by the army from this side.

“The firing by Pakistan resulted in the killing of a civilian and injury to another,” he said and identified the slain civilian as Abdul Hameed of Kirni Poonch.

He said that prior to the firing this morning, the Pakistan also fired last night on Indian positions. “The firing continued from 11 pm to 2 am. However there was no casualty,” he said.

The renewed phase of clashes along the LoC has instilled fear among the locals and the situation is tense, the local sources said.
