Veeri for inculcating sports culture among youth
ANANTNAG: Degree College Kulgam Friday lifted the T-20 South Kashmir Inter-College Cricket Trophy by defeating Degree College Bijbehara by 4 wickets in a closely contested final at the Degree College Boys stadium here today.
Minister for Horticulture, Hajj and Auqaf, Abdul Rehman Veeri who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, gave away prizes and presented trophies to the winner and the runner-up teams. He also gave away prizes to the individual players for their outstanding performance during the tournament.
The tournament was organised by Degree College Boys, Anantnag. In all, 14 teams in the district participated in the tournament.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister appreciated the role of GDC Anantnag for providing an opportunity to the local youth in exhibiting their talent in various sports activities.
“There is lot of talent among local youth and that need to be nourished and government is committed to provide them a platform. In order to keep away the youth from indulging in drug menace and other anti-social activities, they need to be provided suitable platform, said Veeri.
The Minister said the government was keen to expand the sports infrastructure for which ambitious plans have been drafted. He said the Chief Minster Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has expressed keen desire to exhibit sports activities in an organised way.
Asking the youth to take active part in extracurricular activities, the Minister said the government is making all out efforts in this direction so that youth of the State get maximum exposure and they have the all-round development of body and soul.
