An Army spokesperson confirmed the incident to CNS and said the facts and circumstances that led to the blast are being ascertained.

“While prima facie it looks like an accidental blast, but sabotage in such cases cannot be ruled out either,” the spokesperson said.

Defence sources informed that choppers were put into service to evacuate all the injured, who for now are under treatment at the Army’s 92 base hospital in Srinagar.

Sources say while seven of the injured are still in critical state, the rest have been given first aid are stable.

An army spokesperson said that an inquiry has been ordered and investigation has been started to ascertain the facts. “It will be premature to say anything at this point of time. Everything will be clear once the probe will be over,” he said. –With inputs from CNS
