3 held for rape in Jammu

JAMMU: Three persons have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping a girl of Poonch district, police said here on Saturday.

Shavaiz Iqbal, Shakeel Ahmed, both drivers, and Zaffar Iqbal, an engineer, all belonging to Rajouri district, were arrested from Jammu yesterday, police said.

The girl’s father had lodged a complaint at Surankote police station in Poonch district on July 27 that his daughter had gone missing.

During investigation, it was found that the three persons had kidnapped the girl in a vehicle from Samote area of Surankote, police said.

On August 23, police intercepted the same vehicle at Bafliaz area of the district and rescued the girl. Zaffar, who was moving towards Srinagar with the girl, managed to escape, they said.

The girl alleged that that the three had kept her in illegal confinement at different in Jammu and other places and also raped her, they said.

Based on her statement, police conducted raids and nabbed the trio.

A medical examination was done on her before she was handed over to her family, police said, adding that the matter is being investigated.
